Résumé

Suite à un décès prénatal, l'enfant suivant peut être conçu dans un délai plus ou moins long. Nous avons exploré l'impact d'un délai de conception supérieur ou inférieur à un an après le décès sur l'attachement à l'enfant suivant, l'estime de soi maternelle et les symptômes dépressifs maternels auprès d'un échantillon de 26 mères ayant vécu une interruption médicale de grossesse (IMG). Le délai de conception plus court après l'IMG a une influence négative sur l'attachement de la mère au bébé suivant. De plus, ce délai inférieur à 12 mois peut diminuer l'estime de soi maternelle et augmenter le risque de dépression.

Abstract

After an antenatal death, parents may spend more or less time before conceiving another child. In this article, we explored the influence of the period between prenatal death and next conception on mother emotional state, self-confidence as mother, and postnatal attachment to the child, on a sample of 26 women who experienced a prior medical termination of pregnancy (MTP). Mothers who waited less than 12 months for conceiving a child after an MTP have more difficult attachment to their next infant, lower maternal self-esteem, and more depression symptoms, than mothers who conceived after a period longer than 12 months.
